I'm trying to set up automated backup for a client-hosted database, and it needs to be completely independent of user intervention (owner can't afford Server).

The database is hosted 24x7 by a OS 10.4 workstation, and has several guests connecting remotely during the day. I'd like to have it run a nightly script to Save As to BackupFile.fp7, then backup that closed file elsewhere.

I don't imagine using the Host as a Robot machine (an ever open script on a loop) is going to work.

Can I initiate a script via a timer externally through a plugin, AppleScript or Automator Script?

I would like to know more about setting up a robot and it's limitations so links to good posts are welcome as I didn't find much by searching.
