Excel export - record limit bug ?

I get an warning message when I'm exporting data to Excel when the number of records is above the Excel 2003 record limit of 65536.

I appreciate that FM warns me that the data will be truncated *except that* I get this warning even when the records are sorted and grouped by x, so that the real number of records exported is around 300.

FM seems to have its warning condition based

on a count of the records going into the sorter engine - rather than -

on a count of the records coming out of the grouping engine.

Is this not a bug? Or is there something I'm missing?
