Auto-complete from value list

Featured Replies

Dear filemaker oricles,

I am not an expert by all means, i am just doing a simple data base for my training center.

I have setup two fields, 'course type' and 'course fee'.

The course type field is a dropdown list of all our courses. I want the 'course fee' field to auto-fill itself depending on the course thatis selected from the drop-down list.

The problem i am having is, i can't figure out how to assign prices to each entry in the value list.

Any help would be fantastic

I think you probably mean that you want to be able to look up the course fee etc during a booking/enquiry process of some sort.

I do know how difficult it can be to get going so I have "thrown" together an example that covers the above and and also some filemaker basics (if you already know all this, great : )

1) a bit of relational design

2) use of a global field in a relationship

3) text value lists

4) field value lists

5) conditional value list

6) lookup field

I find that to get the best out of this forum you really need to say exactly what it is you are trying to and in what context...

Hope this helps

PS

I would add that this is a bookings form...if a user wanted to look at, say, a "confirmed booking list" then you would probably have a different layout that didn't show the global as this could appear confusing.

(ie if course type was required on the list, just grab it from a related "courses" table occurrence)

Alternatively don't use a global - but that would be poor db design
