October 13, 200817 yr Newbies Just can't figure out why my "Select ODBC Data Source" Box in filemaker is empty?? Thanks
October 13, 200817 yr omitting the obvious, have you restarted the machine, since you installed the divers? Try and delete the SystemDSN and reset it again?
October 13, 200817 yr Author Newbies Yes, I did. I rebooted and reinstalled and rebooted about 4 times. Filemaker just seems to ignore the ODBC Connector. :
October 17, 200817 yr Author Newbies Thanks for all the participation... Just found out that there seems to bo a problem with Filemaker and/or ODBC connector-5.1.5-win64. I dublicated my install on a VISTA 32B system and everything works like a charm.
October 19, 200817 yr Hi, I need help in same issue. I tried just now downloading the version of odbc which you said. But its not working. I also before closed firewall so I was thinking my be firewall is creating problem, but even its same message. Please help, I am struggling since more then one week now but I think it not happy with me. I am attaching the image for you. Regards, Tusif Edited October 19, 200817 yr by Guest
October 19, 200817 yr For everyone's information, this is not a filemaker issue - though why they haven't documented it is beyond me. For anyone having issues with Vista 64bit and ODBC, read this: http://www.filemakerdesign.com/blog/?bid=13. Tusif, best guess for you is that MySQL isn't running on your PC...
October 19, 200817 yr I take that back, if you selected the db from the drop down then best guess is that your username / pass are incorrect for that DB. And as a side note, firewall's shouldn't stop outbound ODBC connections (i.e. client side).
October 20, 200817 yr Hi, I have to install mysql on my computer? and I created another user and password and tried to access again but same answer. It should not be that much difficult. I dont know where I am doing wrong... Can you help me please. I know that this is not filemaker issue, but it is FOR filemaker. Today even I went to office computer and tried to access from there, because office computer does have XP. But error is the same... Regards,Tusif
October 20, 200817 yr Well you don't have to install it on your computer no... but you are trying to access a mysql server at the address of "localhost" which resolves to 127.0.0.1 aka your computer (from the screenshots you've posted). Change it to the correct ip and / or machine name and try again. This thread had nothing to do with actually creating the ODBC entry - it had to do with hunting it down later. If you continue to have issues you're probably best off just googling MySQL ODBC setup - your question is one that is generic as it relates to ODBC setup of MySQL. If you fail to find the answer, feel free to come back and post here.
October 27, 200817 yr Author Newbies Hi there, Got help from another forum: I had a similar problem when trying to use the 64 bit MySQL ODBC driver (5.1) with the 64 bit version of Windows Vista. The 64 bit ODBC driver would install OK and you could even define Data Sources OK using Control Panel / Admin Tools / Data Sources. However when you go into Filemaker the ODBC Data Source list is empty. The solution is to: 1) If the 64 bit MySQL ODBC driver is installed, uninstall it. 2) Install the 32 bit MySQL ODBC driver. 3) Do NOT use Control Panel / Admin Tools / Data Sources to define data sources. 4) Rather, go to the windowsSysWOW64 directory and run 'odbcad32.exe' directly from there to define data sources. odbcad32.exe in windowsSysWOW64 looks exactly like the one in Control Panel / Admin Tools / Data Sources, but I'm believe it is the a 32 bit version and the one in Control Panel a 64 bit version. Nevertheless, once I performed the procedure above, the ODBC data sources appeared in Filemaker and life was good! Hope this saves someone out there some time. I wish I would have found an explanation like this when I was having trouble.
October 27, 200817 yr The link I provided 8 days ago actually said exactly the same thing but oh well.
