I'm an admitted noobe trying to get my head wrapped around FileMaker Server.

Here's the issue:

We have FileMaker Server 9 running on a G5 on the network. The rest of the machines on the network run a mix of FM Pro versions. Accessing the databases through the server while on the network is fine. No problems.

How do I go about accessing the databases from OUTSIDE the network? I'm the administrator by default and don't really have a LOT of network experience.

Unfortunately this is a somewhat pressing issue and I'd really appreciate some guidance on this.

You will have to open all the ports that FileMaker requires on your firewall. In addition you should look into the concept of port forwarding.
