Newbies Richard Starr Posted October 19, 2008 Newbies Posted October 19, 2008 Hi, and thanks to everyone in advance for any help that can be provided. I have a field which contains text and a Field reference, as follows: --------------------- Cost Analysis = "Body of Text" & " " & SubTotal --------------------- The net result I'm looking for is a text block with the field data added to make a cohesive whole. The problem is, the number field is adding the extra digit, i.e. 549.155, instead of displaying the way the field itself does independently elsewhere, i.e. 549.16. How can I format this within the Calculation area so that it dislays properly? Or can I? Again, thanks for everyone's help...I do appreciate it. I've been knocking away at this for a couple of hours and I'm sure it's something simple...or it can't be done at all.
comment Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 A simple way to do this is to use a merge field within text placed directly on the layout.
Newbies Richard Starr Posted October 19, 2008 Author Newbies Posted October 19, 2008 (edited) Thanks. I just did it and works great...with one problem. I'm still getting the numbers with 3 or more extra numbers to the right of the decimal point. Is there a way to format a number within a merge field so that it displays properly? comment Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 I'm not sure how to do that You just type this on the layout: Body of Text <> Then select the entire text object and set the number format the same way you would with a number field. is there an actual way to do this within a calculation field? Of course there is - but it depends on the expected input and output of your calculation (positive/negative/zero, needs rounding or not, etc.). Newbies Richard Starr Posted October 19, 2008 Author Newbies Posted October 19, 2008 Thank you so much! You helped me fix in 30 seconds what I spent two hours screwing around with. I know it was probably a dumb question, but I've gotta tell you, it is going to be a really, really big help in what I'm doing. I hope as my expertise grows, I'll be able to offer similar help to others! Again, thank you!
