miramaya Posted March 14, 2001 Posted March 14, 2001 I had reinstalled FM5 (yes, it is a licensed version) on my new computer and everything seems OK. Suddenly I cannot start FM anymore. Would appreciate any advice.
BAZ Posted March 14, 2001 Posted March 14, 2001 Can you some more details about your system, and what made you reinstall FM5. Can you also provide any error messages, so that we can understand the problem together more.

I had to install the softwar on the new computer. FM was initially running and just gave up on me. When you now click on the icon the start-up process begins and then stops. Yes, I have tried to reinstall the software - same effect. Regards.
Gogargirl Posted March 15, 2001 Posted March 15, 2001 If you have a Windoes OS, is the icon you are clicking a shortcut on your desktop? It might have become corrupted for some reason or be pointing to an incorrect path. Try trashing the icon and creating a new shortcut from the .exe file.

I Agree with Alison shortcuts will react to a new install that way try going to your Filemaker app and executing it there if that works create a new shortcut.
Vaughan Posted March 15, 2001 Posted March 15, 2001 Visit http://www.filemaker.com and download the latest patch form yout copy of FMP. Perhaps the version you have is not compatible with the new OS.
miramaya Posted March 16, 2001 Author Posted March 16, 2001 I do not think it is the 'shortcut icon' and FM was working fine before. It must have something to do with access settings but I could not figure this out yet. When you click the application icon FM 'tries' to start, but then stalls on me. Any help?
Newbies heatherk Posted March 16, 2001 Newbies Posted March 16, 2001 What makes you think it's not the shortcut? Try launching the application itself, without involving the shortcut. If it works, trash the shortcut and create a new one as suggested previously. -Heather
miramaya Posted March 16, 2001 Author Posted March 16, 2001 Even when I try to start the application directly it does not work. I have removed all shortcuts. The hour glass starts spinning and stops after about 10 seconds or so and that's it. Regards.
miramaya Posted March 20, 2001 Author Posted March 20, 2001 I solved the problem by running "Repair" from the Windows 2000 back-up disk. Something went wrong while I was installing another software package. Many thanks for all advice.
Newbies aout Posted March 28, 2001 Newbies Posted March 28, 2001 I am having the same problem. Can you elaborate on your solutions. thanks very much.
Newbies aout Posted March 28, 2001 Newbies Posted March 28, 2001 never mind... the problem was with a conflict with Yamaha Synth software pre-installed on my dell box.
