Sorting

Featured Replies

I have a text field that is defined as an auto enter serial number.

I know that the sorting in this field will be 1,10,2,20. I am wondering if there is a way I can sort it like a Number field so that after sort the result is 1,2,10,20. I cannot change the field type to number hence this problem.

Any help would be greatly apprciated..

Well a calc'field could perform the typecast, however do you need to substantiate this:

Why?

Hi

The client wants to keep it a text field. I have added another field and defined it as a Number field. This is a auto-enter calculation which just takes the value of the text field. I then display this number field on the list layout instead of the text field.

It works properly but I was wondering if there is a better option than this.

Thankyou

The client wants to keep it a text field.

Does he/she indeed?? This means that there is no relational mechanics involved with the field anyway ... A fair guess tells me that there aren't any design critical issues at all then. If you turn it number will you still be able to get everything initiated with a 7 by searching this way 7* ... You must substantiate areas where it gets critical, before I really believe an issue exists?
