Is it possible to get FileMaker to pop up a file selection window when a user clicks on a layout field? In other words, operate in the same manner FileMaker uses when prompting for an export destination file. (see attached diagram)

The field I have is not connected with any scripted process. It's purpose is to provide text for a report. Now, the user is having to type into the field and typos are difficult to notice. It would be much easier to click on a selection.

Any help will be appreciated.

You could use Insert File (as reference) into a global field. Then take the path from there.

Thanks, comment. It sounded like a good idea, but I set up a test and didn't get any result. Did I miss your point?

BTW, I tried it both with and without specifying a source file.

[color:red]Update: the field has to be a container field. Currently, my target field is text, but I see how I can add follow-on operation that extracts the filename from the container field.
