FMP Development Standards/Core Solutions - got a question...

Featured Replies

It was comforting to find the Development Standards by CoreSolutions www.coresolutions.om.ca . It's nice to have field naming coventions and such. It just makes the whole process feel more professional.

I know there must be a good reason, but I've got a question about one of the standards.

It states that, "No portal shall be formatted to allow the manual creation of related records- ie all related record creation shall be done via scipts whic are called by a button on or near the protal."

What is the reasoning behind this one?

Because doing so allows the user to create a record outside of the control of the developer or application. Any kind of control you might want is impossible to implement.

Also users will always expect the empty row to appear on the screen, since it is the bottom row it will often not appear. This is a big confusion for the users.

It is simpler to just not allow this kind of functionality.
