We have some sensetive data that our top management want them to be encrypted. However, our database is used only within a group of 20 people and within the company's network or via vpn. So I'm looking for a simple encryption and that doesn't take much toll on the performance. Any advice on what kind of encryption I should look into?

Look at http://www.troi.com for an encryption plug-in or maybe a custom function.

FileMaker Server will encrypt the data when in transit. When the data are at rest, use an encryptionplug-in such as the one from 24U software.

It is good to know that FileMaker encripts data when in transit. This is an important info to show to my management. Is it a feature that can be turn on and off? How can I tell if my data is encrypted?

The toggle to do the encryption is in the Server Admin Console. Please see the Server Tech Brief on the FMI web site or the Security Tech Brief. If you can't find them, please let us know.
