kfutter Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 We're thinking about the possibility of upgrading our clients to v10, but would like to stay with our existing copy of FM8SA. Are there likely to be any issues with this combination? Kev
Wim Decorte Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 There are some issues you can run into: - check out the readme for FM10. There is a known issue when users are prompted to change their pw - as you know some calcs are performed server-side under certain circumstances. Be careful with those, check the FM knowledge base (www.filemaker.com/kb) on the topic to make sure you understand what gets evaluated where As a quick example: when you make a schema change to a calc, it gets evaluated on the server. If you are using FM9 or FM10 features in the calc the result will be "?" because FMS does not have the functionality
Steven H. Blackwell Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 What Wim said, plus I just would not do it. Get Server 10. Steven
kfutter Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Interesting. Unfortunately I don't think we have (or will get) funding approval for upgrading the server, so if we need to upgrade the server as well as the clients, it probably won't happen at all. Having said that, all our databases are still using v7/8 features, so there should be no immediate trouble with the existing set. It does, however, make it difficult to leverage the new features in v10. Thanks for the replies guys. Kev
