i have a table with a field containing "year" data.

my objective is to count the number of each 'year' instance via a count calc field and managed to produce a list/report (IUCN) containing each 'year' listed uniquely with a corresponding count it has appeared in my table.

my question now is that how am i going to be able to reproduce this report into a portal so i can add it to a a layout?

you can download my sample data here: sample data

im just starting to learn fm so pls dont be too harsh on me :

thanks i advance

The issue here is that summary reports and portals are two different matters, both fully legitimate choices in their own realm ... but when attempting to mix them, the troubles occure.

If your found sets not are overwhelmingly large could this method be used:

But if the scale leaves no alternative to genuine summaries, could a solution be to change this:

...into showing up in a portalised view if necessary?

--sd

Another option is to normalize the data:

thank you so much for this solution mr. comment!

its quite simple yet brilliant!

although i noticed a bit of a lag when the tables start normalizing, i wont be using too much records so it'll do for now.

i'll be posting some stuff just incase i get stuck again.

all the best..

Note that you don't have to sift through the entire set every time. If you import more records into the data table, you can then continue and import only those into the years table.
