Hi,

We currently allow our users to insert files (most resumes) into Container or Text fields.

We do this one of two ways (depending on a preference that's set):D

1. We use a script at the core of which is Insert Object. This works well, in that when we want to open the file again, we just use a Go To Object script step. However, extracting these files is next to impossible (Export Field Contents is not available for containers where Insert Object has been used). The Insert Object dialogue is also not that user friendly... You must select 'Display as Icon' in order for the above to work.

2. We allow the user to select the file (using Troi File), and the location of the file is stored in a Text Field. We then use Open URL to reopen the file. This works really well, except where a user moves the file!

There is a third part to this, which is that we grab the text from the Resumes for searching purposes. So, if a user wants to find a Person with certain keywords in their resume, this can be achieved.

We currently use Troi File to grab this text. However, this results in two dialogues for option 1 above, first the Insert Object dialogue, and then the dialogue to select the File to get the keywords. Again, not user friendly.

We would like to simplify all of this. Also important is the ability to Export Field Contents. However, I know that we are then limited with reopening the inserted file...

Does anyone have a graceful solution to this? Is there a plugin that will simplify the job?

Any tips/ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

jd.

check out SuperContainer from 360works.com. They also have a dedicated forum here.

They also have a Textractor plugin that you can use in combination with this. These two utilities combined will solve all your problems.

hi,

thanks for the suggestion, it looks good, except that it is on the web. we have many clients, and i'm sure that not all of them would be keen to have a lot of extra traffic going up and down...

some of them are also 'security conscious' so would be hesistant to allow this traffic to flow up and down the web.

does anyone else have any other suggestions?

thx,

jd.
