Hi all,

I'm a total newbie to filemaker but anxious to learn. I've been using the Starter Solution "Contact Management" and what I want to do is have the field for State trigger a drop down field to show a value list containing all the colleges in that state. I've read http://www.filemaker.com/help/html/non_toc.46.32.html#1029041 but I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yes, you are correct in that you would need a related value list of colleges given a selected state. You need a table of colleges and their given state. Then you'd create a value list from your form to this table using the state field as the related value (I'd stick with the standard abbrev.).

Thank you bcooney!

By chance do you know of any sample .fp files or other visuals that can help me better understand this. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how that works.

This example uses States and Cities, which is similar. It has one relationship, State choice to Cities. It has 2 Value Lists, a plain one for States (all), and a relational one for Cities, based on above relationship.
