Displaying date in different format than it was entered in -- screws up!

I would like to display dates in a custom format, e.g., "05-Mar-2001". Using the "format date" menu, I can define the format as I'd like it to display.

Many of the dates were entered in the "3/5/2001" format, and they display incorrectly, e.g. a date that was entered as "1/21/1997" displays as 01-Jan-1997 instead of "21-Jan-1997."

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong here?

Thanks,

Jan

Hi!

The example you cite, "1/21/1997" displays as 01-Jan-1997 instead of "21-Jan-1997", may be an unfortunate choice, but it _could_ be that in the Format-Date-Custom setup boxes, you have the month in the first two positions, but in different formats.

The Custom Date format panel should read:

25.......- <= If you have a 12 here then it's the problem

Dec......-

1997.....[blank]

<None>...[blank]

Thank you Carey. Your suggestion was exactly right -- in my haste, I had not noticed the difference!!
