enter performs search

Featured Replies

Hi Guys!

i would like tot prevent users from creating "newlines" in text fields. so i set the return and enter key to "jump to next object". but when i'm in find mode i would like the enter to perform the actual search. Does anyone know a workaround for this??

Thanx!

Wouter

Two ways come to mind quickly:

1) make separate find layouts and format the behavior of the fields differently on each layout;

2) use a single layout but put two copies of each field on it, one formated for entry only in browse mode and one for find mode.

I tend to have separate find layouts because I can make them different colours to distinguish the modes apart, and clean the find layout up by removing buttons that run scripts that are really only appropriate for browse mode.

Thanx Vaughan!

Option 1 indeed seems like a good idea. The best thing about it is that if I use one layout for browsing/finding and the other one for editing, user wont be entering data by accident...

Thanx again.

Separate layouts also allow pop-up menus to be switched for drop-down lists, which allow the user to either select a whole value or free-type into the field, something that might not be wanted for data entry.
