ISBN Leading Zeros don't import from Excel File

Featured Replies

Good morning.

I have an Excel file with book information. I have ISBN numbers with leading zeros. I have the column configured as custom/number with 10 spaces. The leading zeros show up in Excel. When I import into Filemaker 10 the leading zeros are left off. Can anyone help so that Filemaker displays the leading zeros? I have the field set up as a text field since some numbers have an X at the end. Thank you for your help.

Hi Reggie,

Why have Excel formatted as number? By doing so, it will display the leading zero but, if you click into the cel and look above at the fx, you will see the zero does not truly exist. So FileMaker is importing exactly what exists in Excel.

I suggest changing Excel to text format or ... apply auto-enter when imported into FileMaker. An almost exact situation was answered just today here on formatting phone fields . The only real difference would probably be the calculation.

In your case, the calculation would be different:

Right ( "0000000000" & ISBN ; 10 )

agreed... I also use FM for probably what you are. I save the downloaded excel as .txt, tab del and then import the isbn's without a problem.

I have stayed away from formulas just in case. I do have a separate field for isbn 13's

If you need more help feel free to contact me. I've been off here for a while but should be on more now.
