March 23, 200916 yr Hi, I'm having some real difficulty and I just don't understand what's going on. I have a set of files which were upgraded to .fm7 a couple of years back. I am trying to export from one table and import into another. Nothing I do will make it work. I can import the records into a 'clean' new file. When I try to import into my legacy file, I get an error for each record. 85/85. No log is created. I have ensured that the priveleges are ok. At least ... the file has a 'locked' user and an Admin. I login the Admin user before trying to import. I'm using FM 10advanced. I've also tried with FM9advanced. Neither work. Any help will be much appreciated. I'm totally lost. Grant
March 23, 200916 yr Grant, First off, LOVE your photography. They are simply fantastic. I have more questions than answers: 1. << am trying to export from one table and import into another>> Does this mean that you are exporting data from the legacy file into a text or tab file, and then trying to import it back to the legacy file? Or, are you trying to import records from one legacy table to another? 2. Can you create a new record in the Legacy file using the NEW RECORD command? Looking forward to your answers. *susan*
March 23, 200916 yr Author Hi Susan, thanks for the kind words about my work. : : I have tried pretty much everything. I have exported to a tab/comma/FM file and tried to import from there. I have imported the 'exported table' as a new table, back into the same file, which worked. (The file contains about half a dozen tables). I have exported from another file and tried to import. No go. Essentially, yes, I'm exporting from one legacy table and trying to import into another. Yes, I can create and delete new records without any problems. This is so bizarre. I've been using FM for 15 years. Never had an issue that I couldn't resolve. I've tried in FM9advanced as well. Still no go. I've also tried using an old backup of the file. Still no go. The file has a privilege 'lock' on it, to stop accidental changing of records, but I've made as sure as I can that I'm running under the appropriate login. Edited March 23, 200916 yr by Guest
March 23, 200916 yr Additional things I would try: Save As Compressed. Maybe that will zap the gremlins? Remove the "lock" and see if the behavior changes. And finally, pretend you don't care for a couple of hours, and maybe the file will behave? If you wanted to send me a clone and a sample tab file, I would be happy to give it a try. *susan* [email protected]
March 23, 200916 yr Author Thanks Susan ... finally worked it out. I was trying to import into a uniqueID field and said field wanted to enter a uniqueID all of its own. Ho hum. What's disappointing, is that here we are at FM10 Advanced ... and there is no reporting to tell me what's gone wrong. Nothing. No log created. Despite what the Help says. I'm just left to figure it out myself ... in a 3 year old wildly over complicated file. It's easier taking pictures.
