April 17, 200916 yr Newbies I have a "Parent" and Child" table that look fine in the Relationship Graph. Each unique identifier is connected-- The parent field auto generates a serial number; the child field does not. I need to be able to generate records in the child table without adding a new record to the parent table. How do I proceed? I've tried using a portal, but can't figure out where or how to place the child field. Boy I am frustrated. Although I'm 60, I think I have enough brain cells left to manage this task. But I learn best when someone walks me through each step... simply and clearly. (As a retired English teacher, I think I have a chance at this!) I'm using FMP 9.3 and am adding a few more gray hairs (and losing others) each day this issue keeps me bamboozled. Your thoughts... PLEASE. April 17, 200916 yr You can create child records directly in the portal (provided you have enabled automatic creation of child records in the relationship's definition), by filling ANY child field placed in the portal. Alternatively, you can create child records in the child table - but then you need to assign them to a parent, or they will remain orphans. Try both in the attached example. Simple.fp7.zip
