Andrew5 Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Long ago, pre-GUI, I programmed DB's, all flat or one to many relationship type. I am making some FM solutions, and guess what, everything is a one-to-many relationship with everything one hop away, just like I did 25 years ago. My daily use DB is following: central record is client, clients can repeat but they get a new record in the main table. Related to the main table, 1 hop away 1-to-many tables for: 1- time used, 2- client account #1, 3- client account #2. There are a bunch of layouts for reports & forms. - I see everything I make as 1 hop away. I can and I have been able to make all my solutions that way, just as i did long ago, but am I missing something here in terms of usefulness?
RalphL Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 FileMaker has advanced a great deal since it was a flat file system. You need to invest in a good book like Fm9 Bible and study it. you will be amazed.
gdurniak Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 yes, "one hop away" is still enough for most solutions and "two hops away" can come in handy: e.g a client has orders, and each order has items so from clients, you can now "see" all items greg
