FM Server 5 slowing down

Featured Replies

  • Newbies

We have a client who is running FM server 5 on Mac OS 9.0. At the beginning of the day (after teh server starts up), the database is access and displays the results quite quickly.

As the day progresses, the access and display takes longer and longer to complete. On one firm, it goes from an instantaneous refresh to nearly 3 minutes.

FM Server 5 is the only application running. The server has 256 Mb ram, and was originally OS 9.0.4. We have since backed teh system to 9.0. We've even tried upping the cache and increasing the amount of ram allocated to FM Server 5. Still no change in the symptom. All we've been able to do to allieviate this is to shut down FM Server 5, and restart it. It then works fine for a few hours, then the process repeats.

Any ideas?

I've not seen this problem, but I'm a big fan of running older, more stable operating systems on servers. You might try turning off virtual memory and disabling as many extensions as you can. You don't need a bunch of printers, quicktime resources, etc. If you still have the problem, try going back to os 8.6. -bd

My only stab would be to make sure that you are running the latest version of FMP. Check the filemaker web site for updates and patches.
