Newbies oconnors Posted October 6, 2000 Newbies Posted October 6, 2000 Hi all, quick question. Probably a simple one for you FM veterans. All of the events that FM Server 5 writes to the NT application log are driving me nuts. Anyway to stop them or atleast limit it to only important error messages? Thanks, Scot
beltro Posted October 11, 2000 Posted October 11, 2000 No, There is not a way at this time to filter the events server writes to the application log. Beltro
OMamed Posted November 8, 2000 Posted November 8, 2000 Any update on this? My log file is so cluttered with non-info from FMP Server that I can't even sort for the useful stuff.
damo Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 I have this same problem, using FM 7 Server on Windows 2000 Server, critical errors are getting lost in the pointless event logs created by Filemaker. Does anyone know how to get Filemaker to just record errors and other critical events. Thanks Damien
Newbies blah2352 Posted June 9, 2005 Newbies Posted June 9, 2005 Does anyone have an answer for this?
QuinTech Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Given that the Application Log has a very nice filter built into it, I would think most people would prefer FMS to return too much information rather than too little. J
Newbies blah2352 Posted June 9, 2005 Newbies Posted June 9, 2005 Oh it's a great filter for viewing certain Event Sources and Categories. However, it is very lacking in other areas, such as, showing all entries except for FMS Information Events. Knowing that Event Viewer can't filter in this method, I am very surprised that there is no way to reduce the amount of useless clutter this program adds to the Application Log. Is there no option or registry edit that will help keep my Application log free of these unnecessary entries?
QuinTech Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Gotcha. Now that I read this post, I see you are approaching it from a different direction than I had originally thought. I was under the impression you were trying to find something related to FileMaker and could not because of the verbosity. In light of what you just wrote, I guess you are actually looking to weed out all FileMaker events so you can inspect what is going on with other applications. Well, I guess that is kind of a drag if that's what you're looking for. Without exporting the event log to another application and doing some filtering there, I can't think of any way to do this. Sorting by source in the app log is the best thing I can think of; it's almost convenient to look at the most recent event on an app-by-app basis, though nowhere near as easy as looking at a straight chrono view. Sorry I can't be of more help. J
Newbies blah2352 Posted June 9, 2005 Newbies Posted June 9, 2005 Bummer, thank you for your response Quin!
Wim Decorte Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 Wrong here... You can filter out specific sources or types of events right there in the event viewer. Right-click on the event log you want to see and from the context menu select "filter".
QuinTech Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 OK, you lost me. I can see how to filter for events that match "Filemaker Server", for example, but I cannot figure out how to filter events that do not match "Filemaker Server".
Wim Decorte Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 You wouldn't want to exclude FMS otherwise you may overlook FMS errors and warnings. Just toggle off the "information" entries and you'll get a list of all errors and warning from all sources.
