PsyberDave Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 OK, simple question here. I just downloaded and installed FMSA 10. Or, at least I think I did. I purchased several items from FM and downloaded what was labeled to be FileMaker Server 10 Advanced, but the software doesn't say "Advanced" anywhere on any screen, not even in the About box. It does show a maximum connections of 999, so that seems like the Advanced version. Is the software not labeled "Advanced"?
mr_vodka Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 I dont know what the packaging looks like since we get downloads from FMI. However, the console / install for FMS and FMSA are the same. The advanced code will give you access to the other functions that are FMSA specific such as IWP and OBDC. If you had just FMS then you wouldnt have access to these additional tabs.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 If it says 999, that's Server Advanced. Probably better not to try that many connections though. In the Admin Console there is a panel that describes the features available. If Instant Web Publishing is allowed, you've got the Advanced version. Steven
PsyberDave Posted June 6, 2009 Author Posted June 6, 2009 Thanks. So I do have Advanced. It seems odd to me that FileMaker didn't label the programs.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Understood. However, it's all one program or executable, and all the parts are installed. To activate the "advanced" parts, you must have a different license key. If you licensed the regular version of FileMaker Server and then later decided to upgrade, you just enter the new license key and the "advanced" parts become available. The "advanced" parts include more FileMaker Pro client connections, Instant Web Publishing, and serving FileMaker Pro files for ODBC or JDBC connectivity to those files. HTH Steven
