Newbies filemakerstyle Posted June 11, 2009 Newbies Posted June 11, 2009 (edited) Hi all, new here. I am an FM developer and my strengths revolve around UI design. Just wondering if there is a market need amongst established developers out there for help with such things. With all due respect to the amazing solutions I've come across and the cool stuff that happens "under the hood", sometimes the interface of FM solutions can be a bit dated, unintuitive or less-than-modern. I'd love to apply my interface design skills to FMP solutions and maybe help talented developers have the outside match the inside, so to speak. Any thoughts on this, or are people likely not interested in such services? Thanks for any feedback! jamesducker Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Maybe... We could do with having our UIs smartened up and more importantly a good and easily-implementable set of UI rules to work with. Get in touch... have you got any examples?
Newbies filemakerstyle Posted June 11, 2009 Author Newbies Posted June 11, 2009 (edited) Thanks, James. I am putting together a site now to showcase such things, and am planning to do some podcasting/blogging on the subject of FileMaker UI design. I'd love to talk more about establishing guidelines for folks to work with on their projects. Essentially what I've been focusing on lately is trying to take some of the strides in usability that came with the web 2.0 movement, along with long established typography and grid systems and apply those methods into FileMaker solutions. Web apps such as Basecamp, Freshbooks etc are creating a new set of standards that users are becoming more and more accustomed to in terms of UI, and they're also becoming quite popular. The same principals can work really well when applied on the desktop as well and FileMaker is a great tool which can blur that line of desktop/web in terms of functionality. Looking forward to talking more soon. Best, Theo Edited June 11, 2009 by Guest
