We have server 5 on a Windows NT machine. The hard drive is partitioned into a 2 gig partition and a 20 gig partition. (we were told that NT needed a small partition to be installed on). FM5 server installed itself onto the small partition. Now the files need to be in the same folder as server 5(on the small partition) we would prefer to have them on the large partition as they already take up most of the small one. When we moved the folder to the large partition, the service wouldn't start any more. Is there a way around this?

You can create "open" files that would open the actual files on the other partition/volume. That way whenever FMS starts, it would open and host the files.

There are some drawbacks to this setup.

1) You would not be able to use the FMS backup system - of you are using Task scheduler to do your tape backup, this may or may not be a drawback.

Move he FMSERVER Directory .... First, Make A Copy Of Your Fm Pro Data Files Directory To The Larger Partitiion.... Then Uninstall Filemaker Server .....Restart Your NT Server .... Reinistall FIlemaker Server Using Custom Install Options Put Filemaker Server On The Root Of The Larger Partition.... Set Up The Preferences And Copy Your Original Data File Directory Back Into The New FMServer Directory ....Make Sure You HAve The Filemaker Service Auto Start !!! Restart The NT Server ... It's That Simple....
