Dear Sirs.

Could someone help me with trouble I have?

I have two machines the server running under Windows 2000 Server platform and the workstation running under Windows 2000. They both have RAM 256 Mb and Intel 700 MHz processors. Also I have a LAN with 100Mb speed. I start FileMaker Server 5 at the server machine and FileMaker Pro 5 at the workstation. When I try open a simple database (for example database have one record only with fields creation date and creation time), it takes 30 or 40 seconds to open it from from server. I test my network, everything works fine. So could some one help me to understand this problem ?

Thank you.

1. Filemaker Server starts as a Windows 2000 service.

2. I launch my Filemaker Pro and go to menu File, choose there open.

3. In open dialog I press Hosts button.

Than I see a cursor looks like ~ and it's continues 20- 30 seconds.

But I think I find a solvation. Could you tell me how can I start a databases from different folders. I don't want to keep all database files in one folder. So I install Filemaker Server. Create there Server folder and put all files there. And I want somehow sort them by different folders.

And when my Filemaker Server starts, I'd like to see folders where I could choose files. Is it possible ?

RE: Than I see a cursor looks like ~ and it's continues 20- 30 seconds.

There is something fishy on the network or server. This should take up to 5 sec.

FileMaker server will open everything in its folder and one more folder deep.

You can be also successful with aliases.
