Newbies phev Posted May 24, 2001 Newbies Posted May 24, 2001 I was wondering if anyone had noticed any problems with running FileMaker Server 5 on an NT box. We have it running on two NT boxes. One is really just a large workstation, and the other is a Dell poweredge 4400. The 4400 continues to blue screen while the workstation runs pretty well. It mostly happens when we do very large deletes from FM, but not always. Dell has not been much help in this matter. I just don't see how it could be FileMaker seeing how the other machine is doing twice the work, and hosts 3 times the data and has not had a problem. Any help would be great.
eremaut Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 Hi, We have NT 4.0 (with SP5) & FMS 5 running for 3 years now (previously FMS 3). No single problem, but keep in mind: * Use a dedicated server for FMS, so don't run any other software on it. This will keep the speed to its maximum ... * Disable the screen saver, very important * Very important are also the harddisk drivers, always use the current release. * Same goes for the network adapter drivers. * For RAM memory, use only certified memory like Kingston. And if all this is not helping you out; try to consider a clean install from scratch (even re-format the drives). In many cases this will do it ...
Anatoli Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 On one of my locations small company (20 users) where running 10 heavy duty applications on NT 4 with FM 3 server, not a single problem. Now they run 5 applications like SQL and FM 5 on small HP server with NT4 and still no problems.
Lee J Posted June 19, 2001 Posted June 19, 2001 We had a similiar problem and we found (From the Blue screen error) we had a faulty Memory module. Replaced it and everything has been fine ever since. Also check your Event viewer to check it's not a applications error
