ODBC connection from windows to local Mac/Filemaker Pro 10

Featured Replies

I have FM Pro 10 (NOT advanced/server/...) on a Mac OS X Leopard and need to connect to it from an application running on a local Windows machine.

Is there a step-by-step guide anywhere?

Do I need a Windows/Filemaker ODBC driver?

Thanks.

You havent said what you are trying to connect to and what its backend is.

Sorry. I'm trying to use a client running on windows to connect to a Filemaker Pro 10 database in order to create tables and records and to query those tables/records.

I'm using Altova's DatabaseSpy for one task and Perl for another. The first goal is to get DatabaseSpy to be able to connect to the Filemaker dbase using ODBC.

But I can't find a Windows driver for Filemaker when I try to define a User or System DSN.

So I'm pretty stuck at the moment!

On your FileMaker CD or installer, there should be a folder for XDBC. There should be the ODBC driver for FileMaker there.

The FileMaker ODBC driver can be downloaded here:

When using FMP as a data source, the ODBC client application must be on the same machine as FMP. In your scenario, you would either need to run FMP on your Windows PC or run FMSA on your Mac.
