using an XML Schema with FileMaker Export Records

Featured Replies

hi all,

this may be easy, but i'm having a hard time finding out the how...

i have records that need to be exported on a regular basis, in a particular format. this is where the XML schema comes in... i have a http reference to the XML schema, and i have it available in a word doc too.

how do you reference this XML schema when exporting records from within FileMaker? i appear to get a prompt to select a stylesheet, but not the XML schema... do i need to have a stylesheet, that references the schema?

i'm using Pro 9 Advanced on Windows XP.

any tips would be appreciated.

jd.

You need to have a stylesheet. The stylesheet doesn't have to reference the schema - it only needs to produce output that conforms to the schema.

okay. any easy way to transform a schema into a stylesheet?

looking through some online resources atm, but haven't been able to spot a simple method, i.e. open schema, save as stylesheet.

cheers,

jd.

I'm afraid it doesn't work like that. A schema is just a set of rules that your output must conform to. A stylesheet is a set of instructions how to transform a document from one schema to another - it needs to be custom-written for both.
