Bingo Office Database

Featured Replies

Hi there, I have been given the task of converting a bingo daily sales recap (excel) to filemaker. I thought this would be easily done. Not so as I am not to Filemaker savvy yet. What happens is each day, the hall is to record sales for three different sessions(matinee, evening, late). During each session, there are 8 games played, each of which has a different payout structure. I have provided a screen shot of what I have already. I can get the data working properly, but its the reporting that I am having trouble with. So I think my relationships are perhaps set up wrong. I will supply a snap of the report I am trying to create next post.

Any feedback would greatly appreciated.

Edited...

Here is my partial report. I can't get the summaries to show up like this.

Reporting columns in FileMaker can be a bit tricky. There is a great Reporting chapter in the FileMaker Training Series that explains some of the most common workaround scenarios.

There are a few workarounds here but I have a personal favorite. I will put that together and post in just a minute.

That would be wonderful.

Does my relationship(s) look ok?

I am doing a quick sample including relationships. I have another question. What is the "win" formula and any other formulas that are acting in your system?

Thanks.

First, some explanation of how FileMaker reporting works. Each "line" must be either a record or a sub-summary of those records. So, I created a shadow table "Income" where you can pick either revenue, seed money or pot growth as the type of income. I actually used script triggers to automatically create three "money" records every time a "game" is created. I am hoping your profile is not up to date and that you actually have FM 10. If not, you can manually create three records in the portal with the types every time you create a new game or you can script that process with a button.

As far as "columns" go you have to create a calc for each "column" that displays the amount only if it fits in the "column" as you will see in the attached sample file. Then, make a summary field on each of these.

This is a pretty complicated report to create. If you have questions, feel free to ask them here. I would highly suggest either picking up a copy of the FileMaker Training Series or attending training with a FileMaker Authorized Trainer. We provide training in the San Francisco, Philadelphia and Chicago area. There are trainers all over the country.

Win is Total Revenue - Pot Growth - Seed Money.

Also I don't see the attachment and I live in Thunder Bay, ON Canada.

Should I put my current tables/relationships aside and make a form to enter each record eg. (late/twoonie),(evening/twoonie),(matinee/twoonie) etc... I have supplied a pic of what fields are needed for twoonie.
