We have three FM 5.0 Servers on NT4 SP5 in our offices in TN & NC. Our main server, a Compac Proliant 3000, hosts 80 files and usually has about 85 users logged in. We have run FM Server 5.0 and 3.0 for three+ years on NT without problems.

We suddenly have had a rash of users loose connection from the main Prolaint server. The users are kicked out are random, could be in another state across the T-1 or a local user. Once a user is kicked out they will not be able to get back in. They can see the hosted files and one or two files will open, but then they will loose connection again. We have had no problems with the two other servers, but their load is much less.

We can reboot the Proliant and have very few problems or no problems for 5 or 6 hours and then the problem returns and we have to reboot again. We have swapped connections to the switch.

Any ideas?:

All are on PC's - Win98/Win95. Some are coming in on the T-1 - some are local.

We think we have solved the problem. We had added an internet usage monitoring service on another NT server. Turning it off seems to have fixed the problem. We rebooted the FM Server Tuesday (the 3rd) morning. And the monitoring service was turned off at that time. We lost a couple of connections to users during the day on Tuesday. But this morning, I can not see any lost connections in the Event Viewer. I am sure that it is normal to loose a few connections here and there with 85+ users.

Thanks,

Chuck Lynch
