Newbies Oldmanwheeler Posted August 29, 2009 Newbies Posted August 29, 2009 Let me start out by saying that I am so raw I wasn't even sure what topic I should go under. I don't even know if such a template exist but what I'm looking for is a template designed to build a database of historical sites. What I want to accomplish is in my retirement years is to build a database of historical sites in the state of Iowa that are disappearing do to lack of funding. The data I want to gather includes latitude, longitude, altitude, description, related web site, picture, google or open source map showing the coordinates geocoding and reverse geocoding and if possible the abiity to generate GPS downloads in the various formats such as GPX, KML, KMZ, CSV etc... I would also like the option to enter the latitude and longitude in any of the popular formats and have them converted to the other formats and the ability to select which format you want to download or view. I know this is something far beyond my database skills let alone computer skills. I want it to be a nice clean template that allows an easy format for data entry and will allow us to sort by filelds such as City, County, Town, etc.... I find it difficult to believe there's not something already out there but after spending many hours searching I'm starting to think there may not be such an animal. Any suggestions you can give me in regards to organizing and managing historical sites, Points of Interest (POI) or waypoints is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Oldmanwheeler Ames, IA
Lee Smith Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 This topic has come up in the past, have you tried searching for [color:blue]+Longitude and [color:blue]+latitude, or [color:red]+Google +Maps Lee
Newbies Oldmanwheeler Posted September 4, 2009 Author Newbies Posted September 4, 2009 No I don't believe I have. Could you please elaberate on it a little bit?
Lee Smith Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 To search the Forum, go to the menu bar, and click on Search. Next, Click on the selection [color:blue]Advance Search. Fill in the Keywords [color:blue]+Longitude +latitude and then SEARCH button. You could also use [color:blue]+Google +Maps in the same way. There is a help about how to Search in the Advance Search window, just click on the [color:blue]? HTH Lee
