bmohnsen Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I have two filemaker files. I want to import data from one to the other. The specific fields in which the data is imported depends on the value in one of the fields being exported. Any ideas for simplicity - beyond going to the export file - grab data - put into variables - go to import file - check field (that controls where the data goes) and then put data depending on value in the field (that controls where the data goes).
bmohnsen Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Thanks - but I actually need to import all the records - just put the data in different places.
comment Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 This part is not quite clear: The specific fields in which the data is imported depends on the value in one of the fields being exported. Do you mean the field mapping depends on a value in the source file? If so, how many different options are there (an example would be useful)?
bmohnsen Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 One file has fitness scores taken during the current year. The second file is a master file - where score for Kindergarten through 12th grade are maintained. Each year the teacher (who could potentially have K-12 students) exports the file of fitness scores recorded during the current year into the master file. So there are 13 possible values (K-12). So, if there is an export of a first grader then the first graders scores go to fields that are named using first grade_pullups (for example). There are 24 fields that need to be populated each year (for each export).
comment Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I am afraid I don't follow that fully. It seems you would need 13 import script steps, and choose the correct one according to the value. However, I suspect you should really import all data into the same fields, and use another field indicate the type.
