Importing into same FM File

Featured Replies

Hi --

I was listening to a podcast and one of the announcers mentioned that he imports a FM Table into another FM Table in the same FM File.

I immediately started thinking about the awesome things you could do with this. At this point you are a little free from the graph and do some pretty cool things with staging records in one table and transferring them somewhere else when you are done. I just wanted to get some feedback from the community about this.

Is this a standard practice out there?

How often is this done in real production systems?

What does this do to other users that happen be entering/updating recs in the target table while this Import is churning? Are there any locking issues (like the table is locked during the import)?

Any other comments, gotchas, or insights?

Thanks,

Rich

Not sure what you mean by "staging records".
