Probably a silly question .. but here goes .. I just purchased Norton 360 and was setting up automatic back up ... and when I tried to locate the Filemaker db files they were nowhere to be found .. I could see the FM program and related files .. but not my database files ...when I opened windows explorer and click the filemaker folder where the files are .. they do not show there either ... when I boot up filemaker they obviously show in the filemaker folder, so I can open them .. why don't they show in explorer in the filemaker folder ... I want Norton to back these up for me ... but they do not appear in the list of files anywhere ... could I have somehow marked these as hidden files ... thanks ...

Are these files on a FMS? If so, you should NOT have Norton backup the served files, use FMS backup. Then, backup those files.

Thanks for the quick response . You suggest that it is NOT a good idea to have outside backup .. such as Norton? I have a tiny little business here w/two computers that share FM files that are situated on my computer. I thought it would be easier if I had an automated backup and Norton seemed easy and convenient. Also being able to access those backups from my laptop at other locations etc. Why is it not a good idea in your opinion .. and .. any idea why I can not see those db files? Thanks for you help, I appreciate it. I am a rookie at all of this as you might be able to tell. Thanks!

Not exactly. I restate from FMI that an [color:blue]open file should not be backed up. KB article and from FM Help: Backup
