Hi there,

We have filemaker server running on mac osX 10.1.1. For some reason, our mac's that use macOS9 cannot connect to the server. Any ideas why this is not working?

We can run the server on a Mac OS 9.0 and connect a Mac OS 9 client to it, and similarly a MacOSX client can connect to a MacOSX based server. Is there an OS compatibility problem or is there something else? Any tips?

Thanxs

When posting questions such as this, it is IMPERATIVE that you list the specific versions of FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Server that you are using. It is almost impossible to answer the question or to test the issue without that information.

That said, what protocol are you using on the OS 9 machines? You need to use TCP/IP.

Hi,

The FM Server 5.5 is run on a G4 Server that has MacOS X 10.1.1 as it's OS.

We use Filemaker 5.5 as the database client to connect to the filemaker server. Each copy runs on various Mac OS versions ranging from 9 to 9.2.

With those two pieces of software, I don't see why this would not work.

Where do I set the TCP settings on the Mac OS 9 machines? In control panel - tcp/ip settings? At the moment it's set as Ethernet built in with all the relevant tcp settings set.

Thanxs, any help would be most appreciated.

Steve

P.s - With filemaker's facility to send e-mail, is there a way to have filemaker specify what e-mail application it uses other than eudora or the other approved email progs? for eg. to use Quickmail or Outlook?

Chances are that the two different groups of machines are talking different protocols. The OS 9 machines are probably talking AppleTalk and the OS X machines TCP/IP. On the OS 9 machines you must setup TCP/IP in two places: in the TCP/IP control panel and in the FM 5.5 preferences.
