Backing up to network drive, workaround

Hi,

I am running FileMaker Server 5.0 on Windows 2000 server. I have a daily schedules that backs up all my DB to a network drive.

The backup fails with the following message :

Schedule "Thursday FMPServer Backup" aborted; "E:Thurs" could not be found.

I am aware that this is a known issue. On the FileMaker web site they suggest 2 solutions : (see article # 107190 of the knowledge base)

- Buy FileMaker Server 5.5

- Add the Log On account needed to access the network volume to the Services Control Panel.

I tried the second one but when I apply the changes I get the following error from the Microsoft Management Console :

The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

This domain is the only domain on our network and it IS accessible !

Any idea what the problem is ?

Any idea on how to efficiently workaround this issue without having recourse to a third party backup utility or command line process ?

Thanks

I tried using the UNC and I get a similar result...

FileMaker Server tells me that there was an error and suggest that I should see the event log for details. But there is no mention of the error in the Event Viewer !?

In any case the backup was not done (the files are not in the folder)...

It seems I will HAVE to use an alternate way of doing it, probably a command line batch or something (I wish I could use AppleScript !).

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I suggest having FMS backup to a folder on the same drive as FMS, then use Task scheduler to run a BATch or CMD file to copy the backed up files to the network drive. The UNC naming convention can be used in the BATch or CMD file. Your back ups will be more reliable.
