Is there a simple way to display PDF file contents in container fields without first exporting the field?

If the PDF files are stored in the container fields as a reference and not data copied into the fields, then double-clicking on the container field will open the externally referenced file as if you double-clicked on the file icon itself in your filesystem.

But if the file is stored directly in the container field, then no, the file must be exported first for the PDF viewer application to be able to see the data in the PDF file.
