number of files on server

I ran into a tremendous problem. I'm running server 9 on an XP machine. I added some files to the server and couldn't open them because it says I went over the limit. First, does anyone know the limit? Second, any workaround? Third, does 10 allow for more? Thanks

The limit is 125 files and that is unchanged from Server 7 through Server 10.
