Newbies Claire Posted March 20, 2002 Newbies Posted March 20, 2002 Good Day: My client has FM Server 5. They have 17 database files only 1 of which is large. There were 4 people in the office accessing the database. They have a new employee, however, if she tries to access the database, they receive the "too many users " error. How can I check to see how many users they are allowed? If they are allowed 5, what might be the problem? More info >> If they all shut down to let the fifth person on, they have trouble getting back in through the Host. I did post this yesterday on the Network Forum but no replies
andygaunt Posted March 20, 2002 Posted March 20, 2002 One thing to check is on the server it has an option for maximum number of guests. Can't remember exactly where it is (well, I have been here for 15 hours now so the mind is wandering!) Make sure this is not set to 4. It shouldn't stop them accessing the databases if they are served from FM Server, so this is one thing off the top of my head
Newbies Claire Posted March 20, 2002 Author Newbies Posted March 20, 2002 Great, thanks for the thought. I will check into it.
Newbies Claire Posted March 27, 2002 Author Newbies Posted March 27, 2002 OK, so I tried checking the number of users and my client is set at 35. What else could it be. Also, previously, I fibbed (sorry). They have FM Server 4.1 and Windows Server 2000. Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?
Fitch Posted March 27, 2002 Posted March 27, 2002 My guess is this is not a server problem -- the problem is they do not have enough licensed individual copies of FileMaker. Each computer has to have an install with its own serial number, or a multi-user license serial number.
Newbies Claire Posted March 28, 2002 Author Newbies Posted March 28, 2002 Never mind, the problem is solved. The client accidentally installed the wrong version onto one of the PC's. They uninstalled and installed the correct version and life is wonderful again. Thanks for the brain power.
