March 21, 200223 yr v5.5 Server for Mac seems pretty straight forward on using the Disconnect Idle Guests feature. Can anyone tell me how it relates to the _Disconnect from FileMaker Server when idle_ feature/checkbox at the password level for the database? More specifically, must the password level feature be turned on in order for the Server Disconnect Feature to engage? The help info for this topic appears to confuse the word guest and database constantly making it very difficult to understand.
March 22, 200223 yr In order to disconnect idle guets after x mins time, the option to do so must be selected in FileMaker Server. Also, in FileMaker Pro 5.5, that feature may be ignored for any given password if the option to disconnect is unchecked for that password. The principal purpose of this is to allow FMPU to host files to the web and be opened without having to use the master password as was previously required. Please note that the FMP disconnect privilege is separate and apart from any privilege level associated with the password. HTH Old Advance Man
March 26, 200223 yr Author Please advise if I understand correctly: Disconnect feature in Server is completely separate and does not rely upon or reference the disconnect feature in the document preferences. Assuming I understand correctly, what is the idle time when a database is shared by FileMaker Pro and not Server?
March 27, 200223 yr Sorry, Ken, that's not right. If disconnect idle guests after x minutes is selected in FM Server 5.5, guests idle for that length of time are disconnected. Unless, they are logged on with a password that has had that option unchecked. The option is irrespective of any particular level of privilege associated with a password. A master password could be disconnected; a low level one could remain conncted. THe principal purpose of this feature in FMP 5.5 is to prevent the disconnection of a CPU running FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited and hosting files for access by web browsers. HTH Old Advance Man
