November 2, 200916 yr [color:red]Printer Setup not sticking in Scripts Hi - fairly new to programming therefore still need help with the basics. I have written a database that needs to print one document to an A3 and another document to an A4 printer - both double sided. When I script my printer detup is does not seem to stick, it seems to go to the last printer not the one I scripted. I have looked at the plug in Printer Switch but it is a lot of money and do I really need it?
November 2, 200916 yr Hello Paul, welcome to the Forums. FMI claims to have fixed a bug with the Print Setup and Print Script steps in FM10. Prior versions did not restore the printer choice reliably, especially if the printer name was longer than 30 characters. You can search the FMI Knowledge base for "printer" to see the articles about this issue. If you post a clone of your file or a pdf of your script, we could see if it's your script.
November 2, 200916 yr Author Hi - Thank you for your fast reply, I attach a pdf of my very simple script and also the manual method we are using, It should go to a network printer. Any help would be great, and thank you again,, Printing_from_Permit_to_Work.pdf Print_A3.pdf
November 2, 200916 yr In your script, "Print A3," you do not Specify print options or Perform without dialog. Why not? Can you confirm that all users are on FM10?
November 2, 200916 yr Author I thought as I had specified them in Printer Setup I did not need to respecify them in the Print. I did not perform without dialog to give a chance for checking. I user is on Filemaker 9 the other on 10.... Hope that helps.
November 2, 200916 yr Author I loaded the file on one of the workstations using 10.0 and when running directly I still had the same problem. Is it a 10.0 to 10.3 problem?
November 2, 200916 yr Author Hi - I found that article which is why I tried it on the 10.0 version and still had the same problem. Was I OK using the Printer Setup and why not just use the Print function and specify the options at this point. It might sound a a bit simple but it seems to be important. Regards Paul
November 3, 200916 yr You know, I never did understand it, because on Windows, the two dialogs overlap. I'd restore in both. I know we have a customer with a complicated print setup and it's working fine in FM10 (many printers/different paper sizes all in one scripted routine).
