Who does the processing, the host computer or the guest computer?

Featured Replies

I'm running FM server with several clients. I was wondering, which computer does the processing? Judging by network traffic, it seems that the guest is doing most of the processing, but I could be wrong. My other reason for wondering is that my host is only a 266mhz, while all my guests are 866mhz+.

THanks

While the server processes some operation, the bulk of the processing is done on the client machine. A couple of tricks on your server will boost server performance more than a faster machine. I'm guessing from your processor speeds that you are running Macs.

1) Use a RAM disk implemented with RAMBunctious. You'll need enough RAM and a UPS. This actually improves stability over running disk based.

2) Use Peek-a-Boo to allocate more processor cycles to FM Server, even if the Finder is clicked into the foreground.

Both are from Clarkwood Software (www.clarkwoodsoftware.com).

Thanks for the update. I'm running PC's though. I have a 100BT network which helps (half swtiched half hubbed) and runnign TCP/IP
