November 12, 200916 yr The ruler at the top of my layout runs out to 111 inches wide. My print size is set to legal (8.5 x 14 inches) landscape. The white space shows properly in the layout mode but there is this huge area to the right of my work area that I seem to drift out into all the time. Is there a way to resize the overall window so I can't get too lost to the right of my work area?
November 12, 200916 yr Yes... a layout is about 111x111 inches square. However I don't understand the problem. In browse mode you can only scroll around the part of the layout that has objects on it. In layout mode you can scroll around the whole 111x111 inch board. I can only suggest that you make sure you're using the latest version 10.0v3 to ensure there aren't any bugs that are causing scrolling problems. You might also check that Vista is patched up.
November 12, 200916 yr Author The problem is that the scroll bars are extremely touchy when there are 111 inches out there to scroll into. They are so touchy as to cause more problems than they solve. If I only want to move a few inches off screen, then clicking into the scroll bar itself jumps me way out into the 111-inch field. Sliding the scroll bar requires dexterity and lots of practice because the scroll bar is blind (you can't see how far you've gone until you release the mouse button). My only practical navigation tool is the tiny scroll arrow at the bottom right of the window. If I could resize the 111 x 111 inches down to 8 x 14, then the scroll bar would resize itself and the entire scroll bar would be helpful as a navigation tool. How often does someone need all 12,321 (111 x 111) square inches to scroll around on versus how often does someone only need to scroll on 93.5 (8.5 x 11) square inches? I would think the designers would have a way to resize the layout mode for the convenience of the users. I'm using 10.3 and Win 7 but those are not choices in this forum.
