Gregory_I Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Currently I have 12 databases (created with previous versions of filemaker so most are related but the databases are individual of each other.) All databases have about 15 users. Each user has their own different password. If I want to change a password for a user I go to each database and make the change. Is there a way to streamline this so I can change a password for a single user in all 12 databases with fewer steps?
agutleben Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 So long as your using FileMaker v7 or greater you can handle account management via scripts. There's a great article on this in FileMaker Advisor written by Doug Gardner. http://my.advisor.com/doc/17679?open&pid=ztfmfd
Vaughan Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Look into external authentication. It makes easy work of managing many users across many files. External authentication is often set up using Open Directory or Active Directory, but it's not necessary: EA also works with the accounts on the FMS host computer. Read the white paper on the FMI web site for more info.
