Is there anyway to prevent the portal background from changing colors when a user clicks within the portal but not in a field?

This is interesting.

I opened a file with a portal in it, and clicked "within the portal but not in a field". Nothing happened. If I click in a field where user entry is disallowed, the whole portal row is highlighted, but that's the only color change I could find.

Where exactly are you clicking, and what colors does the background change from/to?
