I have just upgraded to Windows 7 and having problems with a file hosted on Windows server. The application keeps stalling and then closing. Any Ideas, should there be special settings when hosting on a Windows server?

What do you mean by "file hosted on Windows server?" Do you mean that you have FMS on a Windows Server OS?

Hi, I have got filemaker 10.3 running on 3 machines with an operating system of Windows 7. I also hav filemaker 10.3 open on Windows Small Business Server 2008. The Windows Server machine is hosting the file I am sharing. Every so often (mainly when printing) the local Windows 7 computers will freeze and need to filemaker to be restarted. I am wondering if I need any special settings on the Windows Server computer??

Thank you for your help (AGAIN)

Hi Paul,

You won't get much help with this setup, as it is against the supported FM networking configuration.

Peer to peer does NOT involve a server.

Please check your documentation.

Hi Barbara,

When I spoke to filemaker re software they said I would not need a copy of Filemaker Server if only 3 or 4 users were required. What setup should I use...?

Yes, that is true. Peer-to-peer is fine for nine users.

I searched Help and FM KB for the explicit instructions to NOT multi-launch from a file server, and couldn't find it.

This is all I could find: FM KB

The bottom line is that the file should be on a workstation (not a server). The first user to open the file is the Host. Any other users will use FM's Open Remote dialog to access the file. They will NOT use any other way to get to the file.

The Host must close the file in order to backup the file.

FM server is typically a dedicated box. FMS has built-in backup functionality that allows for an open file to be paused and backed up.
