Jalz Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Hi Guys, Im creating a merged letter within filemaker, is it possible to create 'conditional' lines of text without having to introduce another field which does the calc for you. Im thinking along the lines of - if(field value = "M") then display "Male" as in the text....and I'm trying to avoid creating unnecessary fields in FileMaker to do this as its only used for report purposes. Thanks Jalz
lawaid Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Unfortunately, Jalz, not under the example you included. When we're seeking to change the data displayed, it requires a calculation.
David Jondreau Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 You could do this with conditional formatting, though it's a little kludgy... Create a text box with the letters "fe". Place that directly before a text box with the word "male". Have the conditional formatting on the "fe" toggle the text color based on the field value.
Jalz Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Thanks Guys, I'm trying to set some simple letter management system and wanted to avoid giving the users access to the data structures. Its a pity FM doesn't do this natively as standard in layout mode :B
