danjacoby Posted March 5, 2001 Posted March 5, 2001 OK, I've got the "Help" script, and since each subsidiary file is programmed to open the main file (hidden), I can now get the "Help" menu item everywhere. The problem is, once I use the "Help" menu item once, it disappears. The only way to get it back is to quit the bound solution completely and reopen it. Am I missing something, or did the FMP Developer programmers screw up?
john.daly Posted March 6, 2001 Posted March 6, 2001 The Help will disappear from the Menu item if the main file is closed. You need to keep the main file open at all times.
danjacoby Posted March 6, 2001 Author Posted March 6, 2001 The Help disappears from the Menu item even if I call it while the Main file is open!!! I opened the Main file, used the Help menu item (which calls a script with one step -- open Help), closed the Help file, and the menu item is gone. What's with this stupid "feature"???
danjacoby Posted March 6, 2001 Author Posted March 6, 2001 And the hits just keep on comin'! I added an "About" script, which works beautifully. But when I run the "About" command, the "Help" menu option disappears. Who designed this garbage?!?
john.daly Posted March 9, 2001 Posted March 9, 2001 Are you running on PC or Mac Dan? My PC version works fine with both Help and About.
danjacoby Posted March 10, 2001 Author Posted March 10, 2001 I'm on a Mac. I just created a Windows version, and it works just fine. Unfortunately, the Mac version's "Help" menu item seems to be a one-shot only. And Filemaker has no place to complain to!
David McKee (Protolight) Posted March 23, 2001 Posted March 23, 2001 For what it is worth, I cannot reproduce what you are experiencing. Although it may still be a bug, I don't think that is a safe assumption until we get more info. What OS are you using? Versions? Are you running other programs at the same time? Are your files corrupt? (can you reproduce with fresh files?) etc... More info please! Actually, you can report bugs here: http://www.filemaker.com/company/product_problems.html "Submit a report if you have reason to believe that you have found a possible bug in our software. Please note that this form is not for technical support questions." And you could have just called Technical Support! = ) Bugs don't count against your call codes. BTW, no one likes bugs, especially the people who programmed the Help menu feature, so please be kind. = ) Bugs happen. Hope this helps! -Dave
